John Steitz

John Steitz is a Managing Director in the Strategic Communications segment in FTI Consulting, and he is based in Washington, D.C. Mr. Steitz is a member of the Government Affairs practice.

Mr. Steitz brings more than a decade of experience on Capitol Hill to FTI Consulting where he most recently served as Deputy Chief of Staff to Senator John Kennedy (R-LA). In this capacity, Mr. Steitz oversaw all aspects of the Senator’s policy operations and served as top advisor for negotiations, legislative, and appropriations priorities, including his responsibilities as Chairman of the Financial Services and General Government subcommittee and Ranking Member of the Energy and Water subcommittee.

Mr. Steitz also maintained his role as policy lead for all defense and foreign relations issues. Mr. Steitz has an advanced understanding of Senate parliamentary procedure, legislative process, and the appropriations process.

Prior to his work as Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr. Steitz served in various roles for Senator Kennedy including as his Legislative Director, Senior Legislative Assistant, and Banking Legislative Assistant during Senator Kennedy’s time on the Senate Banking Committee. In these positions, Mr. Steitz worked to develop a bipartisan legislative program that resulted in the passage of 8 Public Laws including the Holding Foreign Companies Accountable Act (P.L. 116-222), which was hailed as the most significant piece of investor protection legislation to pass Congress in recent years. Mr. Steitz was also responsible for Banking Committee and Budget Committee jurisdiction during the passage of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (P.L. 115-97) and the Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief, and Consumer Protection Act (P.L. 115-174).

Mr. Steitz graduated from Southern Methodist University with a B.A. in Political Science and Public Policy and a minor in Business Administration.
