Matt Dempsey

Matt Dempsey is a Senior Managing Director in the Energy & Natural Resources sector within the Strategic Communications segment at FTI Consulting. Matt is based in Denver, Colorado.

For nearly twenty years, Mr Dempsey has worked as a communications strategist and political adviser on the campaign trail, on Capitol Hill, and in the private sector.

At FTI, Mr Dempsey works with a broad range of companies to secure positive media coverage in local, state and national media markets. He also advises on how to use this media coverage to secure the best possible government-relations outcomes. Most recently, Mr Dempsey is partnering with international colleagues in Europe and Australia to develop a more robust mining practice.

Mr. Dempsey, a Capitol Hill veteran with over a decade of Senate experience, served as the Communications Director for both the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works and the personal office of the committee chairman. Mr. Dempsey developed and implemented an award-winning online communications presence utilizing traditional and emerging media platforms, with a primary focus on environment, energy, transportation and defense issues.

A Colorado native, Mr. Dempsey returned to Denver in 2016 to help lead FTI’s energy team in the west. He enjoys strong family ties to the mining industry as well as deep knowledge of the political and regulatory landscape. In fact, Mr. Dempsey began his career working for a successful US Senate campaign in Colorado in 2002.

Mr. Dempsey earned a B.A. in political science and history from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
