Meg Guerin-Calvert, President, Senior Managing Director, Center for Healthcare Economics and Policy, FTI Consulting, Inc., presented to the National Forum for Heart Disease & Stroke Prevention’s “2021 Mid-Year Virtual Convening: Answering the Surgeon General’s Call to Action to Control Hypertension” event.
In the presentation, Meg interviewed two Buffalo, New York leaders, Rev. George F. Nicholas, Lincoln Memorial United Methodist Church, Buffalo, New York (and Buffalo Center for Health Equity) and Maria Whyte, Deputy County Executive, at Erie County, New York, where they shared their insights on how faith-based and community leaders could mobilize to improve blood pressure control in underserved communities. They identified key lessons from Erie County collaborative’s success in mobilizing faith-based and trusted community leaders in response to COVID-19 for dramatic impact on outcomes and health disparities. Valuable lessons included building and using trusted relationships, developing and sharing actionable data, and creating innovative and practical strategies that reach across and into communities.
FTI Consulting’s Center for Healthcare Economics and Policy works with multi-sector community leaders to quantify the economic impact of poor health. The Center’s extensive data-based research on medical, productivity, and opportunity costs of poor health, extends to address COVID-19 pandemic effects exacerbated by underlying health conditions and health disparities. By systematically quantifying disease conditions, demographics, medical and productivity costs, and economic impact for cities across the U.S., the Center provides their leaders customized metrics for comparative economic impact and opportunity.
