Nancy L. Freeman

Nancy Freeman is a Managing Director at FTI Consulting and is based in Atlanta, GA.. Ms. Freeman is part of the Healthcare Risk Management & Advisory practice. Ms. Freeman has over 30 years of experience working on complex coding, billing, and healthcare compliance issues. She focuses her practice in addressing complex coding and billing concerns in a variety of provider settings. Ms. Freeman’s clients include large and small hospitals and health systems, academic medical centers, physician group.

Her experience includes not only working with providers on general compliance reviews, but also working with legal counsel to address complicated coding/billing matters and investigations relating to qui tam, voluntary disclosures, PATH audits, RADV audits, and the requirements of corporate integrity agreements. She has also served as an expert witness relating to a Medicare billing issue. In addition she has worked with a variety of clients on charge capture and other revenue integrity issues. Most recently, she assisted a new Medicaid managed care company interpret the state regulatory guidance and formulate payment policies consistent with the guidance. She has also conducted high-level ICD-10 assessments and training.

Prior to joining FTI, she was a Managing Director in the Healthcare and Life Sciences practice at Dentons US  LLP. Prior to joining Dentons in 2009, she served as a Director in the clinical research and compliance practice for Huron Consulting Group. She was a Director in KPMG’s advisory services practice in Atlanta, and a Senior Manager in Deloitte and Touche’s risk and compliance practice. Prior to her consulting career, Ms. Freeman was the Assistant Director of Utilization Management at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, GA, and the Director of Health Information Management at Sun Coast Hospital in Largo, Florida.

Ms. Freeman holds a B.S. degree in Medical Record Administration from the Medical College of Georgia, and is a Registered Health Information Administrator. She also has Masters degrees in Business Administration and Health Administration from the Georgia State University. Ms. Freeman is certified in healthcare compliance by the Compliance Certification Board of the Healthcare Compliance Association, and is an AHIMA approved ICD-10 trainer.
