About Todd
Todd Smith is Co-Leader of the Merger Integration & Carve-outs practice and specializes in integration management office leadership, organizational design, employee engagement, synergies achievement, sales force integration, enterprise portfolio management, customer relationship management and all aspects of back-office integration, including finance/accounting, real estate and IT systems. Mr. Smith has close to 20 years of merger and acquisition planning, business operations and finance experience. He has industry experience in chemicals, telecom, technology, industrials, hospitality and gaming and healthcare.
Mr. Smith has led many successful merger integrations, resulting in the identification of cost synergies exceeding internal targets, in addition to successfully positioning each client to achieve their respective integration objectives.
Mr. Smith held an Operations Senior Executive interim management role, reporting to the CEO, for a retail client leading up to a successful transition to the permanent replacement prior to a critical business season. Mr. Smith also led a customer experience model redesign for a client in the modular space industry, which comprised an assessment of current state processes and customer touchpoints, in addition to the target state model designed to significantly improve process efficiencies and customer net promoter scores.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Smith was with Level 3 Communications. He led Level 3’s integration of tw telecom, which was a transaction valued at around $7 billion, bringing tw telecom’s deep and extensive North America metro network assets and product portfolio to Level 3’s customers. The planning phase of this transaction involved 14 functional teams and over 150 representatives from both companies and resulted in a successful Day 1 and Day 100+ execution.
In addition to leading the tw telecom integration, Mr. Smith was the integration leader of the Global Crossing transaction, valued at nearly $3 billion, and was comprised of a global network footprint providing services in five continents and a diversified customer base of wholesale, enterprise and government customers.
While at Level 3, Mr. Smith also led a global business process team of 70 employees, with a $9 million operating budget, that spanned three regions (North America, Europe and Latin America). With a principal focus on cost reduction initiatives, he and his team were responsible for delivering enterprise initiative process design requirements, global process standards, continuous process improvement targets and business process maturity objectives.
Prior to joining Level 3, Mr. Smith was with Target Corporation, where he was a Business Operations Manager within the Operations and Logistics team for the online division of target.com. He also worked in logistics management for several major companies, including Ball Corporation. As a result of Mr. Smith’s expertise, he has been invited to speak on industry panels, including the 2019 Transaction Advisors M&A Conference in San Francisco.
