Wendy Dobson

Dr. Wendy Dobson is an expert in responsible business, sustainability, and climate change with a focus on financial institutions and emerging markets. For the past 13 years Wendy has led the Group Corporate Citizenship team at Standard Bank, Africa’s largest banking group.

In her role at Standard Bank, Wendy spearheaded the development of the bank’s sustainability strategy and climate policy. Her responsibilities also included ESG and climate risk, ethics and conduct risk, policy advocacy and stakeholder engagement. She regularly reported to various board committees regarding these functions.

Wendy served as co-chair of the Banking Board of the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative from 2020 to 2023. She was also a member of the core group responsible for developing the United Nations Principles for Responsible Banking. Wendy previously served in the Department of Trade and Industry in South Africa as well as in the National Economic Development and Labour Council (NEDLAC). Wendy completed her Ph.D. in Responsible Corporate Political Action from the University of Pretoria.
