About Bruce
Bruce Benson leads FTI Consulting's Technology Transformation practice and is co-leader in the company’s Telecom, Media & Technology (“TMT”) practice. He has over 35 years of professional experience in media, technology, strategy and marketing, advertising, brand strategy, economic analysis, operational effectiveness, consumer engagement, intellectual property management and digital transformation.
Mr. Benson is a recognized expert in the media industry and has helped some of the world’s leading companies achieve their strategic goals, including Sony Music, Microsoft, Bertelsmann, Viacom, Young & Rubicam, Ogilvy, Harper Collins, NBC, ABC, Warner Bros., Fox, Paramount, Sony Pictures and Pearson. He has led over 200 projects with clients and as a media executive both in the U.S. and overseas. These projects have focused on strategic planning, revenue optimization, operational effectiveness and cost containment, internet distribution and large-scale IT project management.
Mr. Benson has led over 100 global IT and digital projects. He has been interim Chief Information Officer for four large companies, managed the implementation of over 20 enterprise resource planning systems worldwide, designed and developed many large-scale leading-edge custom systems and has launched digitally-oriented operations for clients.
Highlights of this work includes the design and launch of Sesame Street’s websites (awarded the first Emmy award ever given to a web site); the relaunch of Sotheby’s global digital operations and the design and develop of their web and e-commerce sites in six languages; the integration of Christie’s e-commerce auction sites into Christie’s overall operations; and the implementation of SAP’s e-commerce suite into Cox Newspapers subscription and e-commerce business.
Mr. Benson was also a part of the implementation of NetSuite’s e-commerce solutions into Ziff Davis’s subscription operations; the design and development of Christie’s Deal Management and Sales Management systems; the digital transformation of various newspaper and magazine operations; the launch of Fox’s international TV distribution business, including its sales, rights and royalties management systems; and an array of other leading-edge projects, including machine learning, AI, big data and blockchain projects. Mr. Benson has also led various due diligence projects, research and development operational re-design projects and large digital and IT carve-out and merger integration projects.
Mr. Benson is a frequent keynote speaker and the author of many articles on digital strategy and media and has co-led conferences with key Harvard strategists on intellectual property management and copyright law. He was previously appointed as an “industry luminary” to Adobe’s product strategy board. As a result of Mr. Benson’s work with EW Scripps, FTI Consulting won the Consulting Strategy award by the Association of Management Consulting Firms in 2012.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Benson was the Executive Chairman on Ziff Davis. Before that, he led SAP’s Entertainment & Media practice, where he led the investment and development of their various entertainment and media solutions. From 1998 to the early 2000s, he was EVP of Young & Rubicam and CEO of iWeb, an internet advertising company. From 1994 - 1998, Mr. Benson was SVP of strategic projects at Sony Entertainment, where he led the International operational transformation of the company. Before that, he was a Partner in PwC’s Entertainment & Media practice.
