About Sean
Sean A. Gumbs specializes in creating and maximizing value for stakeholders of troubled companies. Mr. Gumbs has close to 25 years of experience, including industry expertise across a wide range of areas such as higher education, pharmaceuticals, forest products, manufacturing, homebuilding, financial services, retail, restaurants, software publishing, oil distribution and real estate.
Mr. Gumbs’ municipal-related experience includes advising the bondholders of a not-for-profit liberal arts college in West Virginia on restructuring alternatives given past defaults and advising the bondholders of Santa Rosa Bay Bridge Authority near Pensacola, Florida.
Mr. Gumbs advised Jefferson County in Alabama on restructuring alternatives for its General Fund given the loss of substantial tax receipts, led a multi-department review for the city of Philadelphia to identify savings of approximately $175 million over five years with respect to third-party spending and enhancement to the revenue collections process and advised the California State Parks on solutions to achieve a sustainable operating and funding model across its diverse 280-park system. He also advised the bondholders of Highland Hospital Obligated Group, a non-profit psychiatric hospital in Charleston, West Virginia, regarding performance improvement initiatives that could be implemented by the hospital.
Mr. Gumbs’ extensive corporate restructuring experience includes recently serving as interim Chief Executive Officer of Everyware Global, a post-bankruptcy marketer of tabletop and food preparation products that includes such well-known brands as Oneida and Anchor Hocking. He also served as financial advisor at CIT Group Inc. and led the development of a complex integrated financial operating model used as a strategic business planning tool for senior management.
Mr. Gumbs’ other assignments include International Outsourcing Services, LLC (interim CFO), Heating Oil Partners LP (interim CFO) and CST Industries (secured lender). He currently sits on the board of directors of MF Global Holdings Ltd and certain affiliates, where he has overseen the recovery of assets from around the world.
Mr. Gumbs co-chairs the New York American Bankruptcy Institute Conference and is a former board member of the Turnaround Management Association.
